Sterling Coffee Roasters

This place rocks on multiple levels. A small spot in Northwest portland and when I say “small,” I mean “SMALL.” Having maybe 5 tables and can seat probably 12 this plays has people coming and going all day. A great decor, with coffee plants decorating each table, it makes sense why this place is blowing up. The owners are your barista’s and they welcome you with their hipster vintage suits and smiles. Their roast is delicious and their espresso is made on a single group Synnesso machine (which I had not seen.) The price was a little high for my drink, but worth it because they made the shit out of my coffee. The Nicaragua blend was fantastic with a lot of flavor and very smooth. They roast well, barista well and decorate great. This is a “Must Stop” in Portland.

I love finding random places that seem like they have a lot of culture. I was stoked when I passed by Bluebeard. They had all the outside signs for a cool shop. Interesting signage, big garage door windows and people inside! My cool coffee shop radar did not lead my astray. Bluebeard has a solid La Marzocco machine which they use to whip you up a delicious shot of your preferred coffee drink. They roast on site and their bean is very good with some great flavor to it. They only downfall of this place is that it is a little overpriced which is not that bad, but when you combine that with the heaps of contempt their barista’s hold toward their customers it makes it a little hard to swallow. I love great coffee, but I hate people who don’t seem to give a shit about the people they are making it for. Great coffee, bad attitude.

Perk is relatively new and very small. However, they employ one of the best barista’s in the Northwest. They use a very tasty bean, and the barista’s are on their game. It is a little off the beaten path, but well worth the hunt. It’s small, but very intimate which in my opinion adds to it’s awesomness. This is your best bet in Eugene and if you are there when Okon is working, be prepared for one of the best cups of coffee you will ever have.
