Oh man, I was so stoked to wander into this place and see a single group Synnesso machine and a pour over station. Although this is not really a coffee shop. This place is all about the food. It’s a diner/cafe that serves up some tasty goodness from their full kitchen. The coffee had some great color and some good flavor. It was a little bitter, but I am not going to nitpick, because you are in bloody Fergus Falls Minnesota. However, the second time I came in my 8 oz double shot latte cost me $4.20 and they did ask me if I wanted flavor. I like to forget my second exchange and focus on the first, which was great. Definitely the best bet in FF. Get some great food also!

I know better by excited for coffee shops based off their name, but I have to admit I was a little intrigued to see this on the corner of main street. From the outside, it looked like it might be one of those rare cool coffee shops in a state littered with nothing. After struggling to find the entrance and then realizing I have to go into a small shopping mall even to get in to the place, my positive sentiment quickly dissipated. A huge space, but littered with old folks, odd non-coffee items for sale and a stuffy barista was what greeted me and that was the good things about it. The coffee was bad. I would say, get some drip and one of their sandwiches and use the space to work. That is probably the best case scenario for this joint.

Located right downtown in Wadena this is a huge space on the strip. A really cool space with couches, gaming center, computers on the wall, TV’s and a piano it reminds me of a cyber cafe in Europe. It definitely caters to the teenage demographic and even donate some of their proceeds to teen programs. Could not tell what the machine was, but whatever it was it made some serious garbage coffee. Hopefully they are not serving this to the teens because, they are seriously going to be brought up on drinkable diarrhea. Talking with the barista, he gave me the impression that he knew a little about decent coffee, but when he had to step up to the plate and make some he struck out badly. He steamed my coffee till the sound of the frying milk was so loud I had to plug my ears. Then he filled what was suppose to be my 8 0z drink all the way up to the 12 (the smallest size the have.) It was almost undrinkable and a waste of mouth space. The good part about this place is that it is a cool spot to hang and has a lot of great things you would want in a shop. Coffee is just not one of them.

One of the higher rated shops on Yelp, and once again, the popular user generated site is leading people astray. A god awful shop that is stale and full of odd trinkets for sale. The coffee is just as odd. Dumbfounded by my 8 oz drink, the barista definitely asked if “I wanted flavor” and charge extra for a second shot. A La Cimbali machine and a Diedrich roaster on site, the place is a wash. Don’t go here.

I have no idea how I ended up here, but I did and here are the things I experienced. First, this place is broken up into many different rooms that are not even attached to the actual shop. It felt like a giant complex of funky art, pizza and trekkies. They use a Simonelli machine and their smallest size was a 16 0z. After a long conversation on how I wanted them to fill the 16 oz cup 1/2 way. It seemed to blow her mind to be honest. It was like watching a Neanderthal learning how the internet works. After a 5 minute explanation, I received a full 16 0z blazing hot latte. I don’t understand how in 30 seconds you can forget exactly what a person wants. The coffee was shit and I would say avoid this place like syphilis.

If you love Mexican styled coffee shops in Minnesota this is your spot. Decorated like a villa on the Gulf of Mexico with paintings of Conquistador’s and pastel flowers, this place is huge. Food, wi-fi, fireplace, computers are all offered here. They roast on site with a Diedrich Roaster and use a Cembali Machine. The coffee was ok. It had some decent flavor, good color, but the fact they don’t serve 8 0z and the coffee was a little hot, made it kind of a let down. Great place to hang though.

I was so excited about this place when I read about it. They roast their own beans, have a nice La Marzocco with chemex and french press options. The shop was a giant let down. Full of college kids working on their computers leaving no place to sit. The presentation was horrible. It seemed like the barista did not even take time to make my drink, just throwing some shit in a cup and calling it a day. The flavor was missing and it was very bland. So lame! What a waste of good resources. Go somewhere else.

My favorite place in Wellington hands down. One of a handful of shops in New Zealand that actually focus on espresso! A small shop off the beaten path, with limited seating and a very industrial design. Big ass glass windows looking over the road and into their roasting area where you can watch the magic happen. It’s cement interior gives you a real feel that they are not their to produce crap, but some science students who rented whatever space they could to make the best espresso. It has limited seating, but that don’t matter because you are going to be jumping up and down this place is so good! A sexy black La Marzocco on display with a small assortment of high end baked goods next to it. The coffee was superb. Great flavor, with very bold notes, great color and when touching my lips I could feel my feet tingle a little. This is the #1 spot to go of all the places I tried in Wellington. They also offer a chemex option.. This is your spot..

Their coffee is used all over Wellington and I was extremely excited to visit their shop/roasting location in Wellington. A really cool shop with custom wood interior a tasting room and a few spots to sit and enjoy. Smack in the middle is there large Probat roaster showing off like some grand champion horse. They use a direct trade bean and the owner is very knowledgable and friendly explaining the process of how they get their beans. I was a little surprised to see that they use a Slayer Machine, but the owner swore by it, so I was onboard. Upon my order I watched them throw 6 shots away before they served me a drink that was to hot. I really Pokies appreciate the fact that they would not serve me something they did not think was high quality, but on the flip-side, why did it take 6 different pulls to get something good? I would expect something better from the 2011 3rd place finisher in the world barista championships. The presentation was beautiful, but it was to hot and the coffee was to smooth. It was honestly like drinking air. I like my coffee to have some bite, and this did not. They coffee is to well done for their own good. Great place to visit on your coffee spot. Especially if you want to really experience some of the upper crust of coffee companies.

A lot of places in New Zealand lack character and Memphis Belle is the exact opposite. It is full of character that is fun and a little quirky. It is funky little shop only a block away from Cuba Street. It reminds me of a shop in Little Italy in San Francisco. Shanty-like and a little punky this little spot has limited inside seating and really funky old antique pics on the wall. They rock a Faema Machine, Flight Coffee and offer pour over, syphon and chemex options. The coffee was bitter, yet very flavorful and strong. I really enjoyed this place. Grab a snack and a cup and sit out outside that faces the square and people watch.
