Coffee History

The history of coffee goes way back to Ethiopia and the stories of a goat herder who saw his goats being a little frisky after eating some mysterious berries. Those berries were coffee. Coffee is said to have been used by monks to keep awake during prayer vigils. Coffee history has many stories and urban legends.

From coffee origins in history to today, Coffee has been toured around the world and is now grown in many places such as Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Mexico, Hawaii and other places. Coffee is sold in many roasts and varieties and makes a number of interesting drinks. Coffee is both historic and almost timeless. It’s used for social purposes, for celebration, for medicinal purposes, to give you a lift. Whether you like it with cream and sugar, in a pulled espresso shot or simple decaf instant, coffee is a treat. It can be used in desserts, in drinks, in hot or in cold. It can warm you up, wake you up and perk your mood.

In the early first century, coffee started to travel the world. By circa 16th century, coffee was all throughout the western world as well. In the early 20th century, instant coffee was invented. By the 1940’s, the majority of the world’s coffee was imported into the US for consumption.

Today, thanks to the Internet and global commerce, you can have coffee from anywhere in the world. Whether you like Folgers, Maxwell House Instant or the expensive Kopi Lewak coffee, you can access coffee online, in your grocery store and on just about any street corner however you like it.

You can find a wealth of coffee information online such as the history of coffee cake, the history of coffee shops such as the history of the Starbucks coffee company, information on the 1990’s coffee boom history, the interesting butternut coffee history and even coffee cake history.

The history of coffee can tell us a lot about trading and how trends sweep the world. Coffee is sustainable because of some good practices and needs to be protected in areas where those good practices are not followed. The world is getting rich and starving due to coffee. Reform in some countries is happening because farmers aren’t being paid fair prices for coffee. Many organic coffee companies are also coming up in the world as people are more aware of environmental practices which will help the coffee industry in the future. People are buying organic fair trade coffee to help preserve the environment, the integrity of the coffee and the quality of life for the farmers who work so hard to preserve the integrity and history of coffee for future generations.
