So excited to find this place start up in-between my 5 year layoff from visiting Juneau. A cool spot centrally located (virtually everything is in Juneau) with a long table down the center that accommodates the alarming amount of cruise ship people needing free internet. The art on the wall is minimal, but the wall paper is very cool with stenciled trees and crows and a huge mural above the bar, making this place great on the eyes. Even better for the eyes, is when I saw the La Marzocco machine and Stumptown coffee signage. However, I was confused when they did not have an 8 oz cup on the menu, and I had to specifically ask for it. The coffee itself had good color, with a small rosetta, but was to hot and the flavor was really disappointing. Very weak cup considering that they have all the right things in place to make a killer drink. At the very least, it was drinkable and accompanied with one of the delicious pastries they sell, it turned out to be a very good experience. They also have light lunch stuff like soup, pie, pastries, sandwiches and beer on tap. Great to see that quality coffee has made it’s way up to the last frontier. Can’t wait till they hammer out the kinks.

This is a great cafe to visit in a town that’s biggest attraction is the State Fair. Cool art, friendly people and great food that offers a healthy assortment of vegetarian options. They use a Simonelli machine and even though it was not amazing, my coffee turned out to be pretty good and considering the town, that is about all you can expect.

A interesting little place that also is a bakery. Although they were all out of baked goods when I arrived, the atmosphere was cool. Hard to not overhear every conversation in the place, but since it is in the living room of an old house, I think that is the point. Everyone seemed to know each other and are very friendly to strangers. The coffee was ok and nothing to rave about, but a cool place to visit none the less.

This is the first coffee shop in Valdez and is located inside of Safeway. I think Starbucks stole the idea from these guys. The coffee is ok, but better then any Starbucks I have ever been to. There is nothing like your coffee being made while your grab some banana’s. That’s about it though, it is fun to try it out, but not the best quality.

There are a number of coffee shops in Valdez, but without visiting all of them this is your safest bet. They have a La Marzocco and pull a decent shot. The only downfall about this place is there is no places to sit. It is literally a walk-in and get the hell out joint. Although, you are right on the mountains, so what are you doing inside anyways?

This is a cool little shop with hard wood floors and lots of light. Open the latest of all the coffee shops in town and probably your best bet. The pull there shots with a espresso machine lever and it is not amazing, but not terrible. There was no art on the baron walls, and the staff was a little standoffish. However, the food was good and it is a great place to plan your day in this cool little town.

Another coffee shop located at the back of artsy gift shop for tourists. Their baked goods are great, but that is about it. They use an Astoria machine and my shot of espresso was way to hot and even scarier, way to big! A shot of espresso should not be 5 oz. Skip this place unless you want to pick up some cool trinkets.

This is the only coffee shop in this small hippy town, and it is super cool. They have very kitschy decorations and Archie McPhee pranks to buy. It has a very nerdy atmosphere, with a comic con feel. However, they deliver a solid latte and a big smile as you hang out.

A interesting little shop on the corner. The food was good and reasonably priced, but the coffee was not that great. I am not sure what machine they have, but it looked like something you can buy at Toys ‘R’ Us.
