Victrola

3215 Beacon Avenue South
Seattle

Victrola is probably my favorite roast in all of town. They have a few locations around Seattle and their roast brings the house down. They don’t get mentioned a lot by the locals, but everyone I bring there, rave about it. I think the reason they don’t get as much hype as Vita and Stumptown is that they don’t put themselves out there as much. A lot of Vita and Stumptown’s success is they spend a significant amount on advertising and kitschy promotional tactics that keep them on the coffee culture radar. Victrola quietly sits back, and pumps out some of the best coffee in all the city. They keep it simple. All of their shops are pretty basic, except they they bring the delicious on virtually everything. Great tea, sweet treats and snacks are also on par with their kick ass espresso. A fine La Marzzocco machine and knowledgable barista’s churn out smooth, delightful drinks that make your tastebuds explode. It’s all about the roast at Victrola and if you like to really taste a great roasters bean, this is the place to do it.

El Diabolo Coffee Company

One of my favorite spots in all of Seattle. This brightly colored place sports amazing coffee, great ambiance and the perfect spot to have a little fun with your deliciousness. Decorated with beautiful murals had when they were decorating the space. Every table is hand painted with unique characters and funny sayings. With little nooks and cranny’s this is not only a funky spot to hang out and study, but a great place to bring a date. The coffee is also phenomenal. They have the cubano shot where they put raw sugar in with the espresso. Do this!

Freemont Coffee Company

This is my favorite spot in Freemont. Located in a old crusty looking house, the Coffee Company thrives by providing not only good coffee, but a good place to study. There are about 3-4 tables in each room and art decorating each room like it would your own home. The coffee is great and the food is very good also. I love this place, but would not recommend it for a social meeting place. The intimacy of each room makes it so that you can be heard clearly pretty much anywhere in the house. It seems most of the time people are busy working and no one really goes there to socialize. If you are looking to bury your face in a laptop or book with some great coffee in Freemont, this is your spot!

This place caters solely to the business’s located around it. With two seats inside, if you can get one of them it is well worth the risk. A La Marzocco machine and a quality bean these guys make a great drink. Not only that, they also have quality lunches and a steady stream of friendly faces of people they know. If it was not for All City raising there prices, I would write these guys off, but a great alternative to have. They don’t have wireless internet to accommodate anyone who wants to work there, but they don’t need to. Noone is coming in to work. Great place to sit and have a conversation.

Vivace’s

321 Broadway Avenue East
Seattle, WA 98102

Review -

It is hard for me to review this place, since this is pretty much the place that put high-end specialty espresso on the map in the United States. It’s a little bit like rating your sensei, it’s just hard to do. They function on a coffee level that is above and beyond my understanding. A shame their original location was torn down, but they have recovered nicely. With three locations (Capital Hill, REI hgh human growth hormone injectable hgh) Vivace’s is some of the best and smoothest espresso you will have. A classy layout, beautiful customized Synnesso machine and delicious treats, makes this the most important stop on your coffee journey. These guys wrote the book (literally) on ristretto shots, roasting, rosetta pours and all things espresso. Don’t leave Seattle without visiting the reason you have had great espresso in your life.

Caffe Vitta

Vita has become the standard in Seattle. With multiple locations and many other shops using their beans, they are starting to be mentioned with the likes of Vivace’s in the espresso landscape. I see why. They have everything going for them. Ideal locations, clean/stylized shops and most importantly really good espresso. With every shop rocking a La Marzocco, this place appeals to everyone. Hipsters, goths and preps all frequent Vita shops and make it a diverse spot to hang. My favorite spot is right on Capital Hill and is also their roasting location. This shop is a non-stop people watching spot and even has an upstairs if you want to get some work done.

Macrina Bakery

Macrina’s specialty is certainly not coffee, but like everything they do, they do it well. With A few locations around town, Macrina delivers some of the best baked goods and tasty treats in the city. Sandwiches, soups, salad and every baked good you can imagine this is solid place to stop. Every Macrina I have been to, has a great layout with beautiful woodwork and intricate designs. No detail has been missed in everything Macrina does. Their coffee is made on a small La Marzocco and they deliver a better shot then any other place in the city that does not specialize in espresso. If you are hungry, or want a good place to meet someone and get some great coffee, this is it!

This is a pretty funky place. It is a little hidden in the madness of California Ave, but is a pretty good spot for the coffee aficionado. It’s in a small old house. They layout is very interesting and you can pretty much hear everyones conversation. If you don’t want coffee they do have a beer and wine to enjoy which makes it a nice place to meet up. They have a La Marzocco machine and pour a pretty decent shot. Is the best place closest to the Fauntleroy Junction and will not disappoint.

Red Cup Espresso

h2>Review -

Red Espresso boasts the claim as the first ever drive through coffee shop. It very might well be also. Red suffers from the fact that there are so many other quality coffee shops within a one mile radius. However, if you are looking to get a great shot and not get out of your car this is the spot. They have a La Marzocco machine and pour a decent shot that is going to help you get to where you are going. They focus more on the drive thru and the ambiance of the interior has suffered because of it. I would not recommend hanging there, but you will get a decent shot there.

Uptown Espresso

Posted on 23 November 2012 by mattbaker

500 Westlake Avenue North
Seattle, WA

Review -

This is a chain around town (West Seattle, Westlake, Queen Anne, Belltown etc.) and is very interesting to me. They claim that they were voted the best Latte in Seattle by Seattle Weekly and even if that statement is true, that is not true anymore. Uptown establishments are normally very large, don’t stay open super late and normally host large groups. The coffee is pretty good, but very inconsistent. I have had really good latte’s here, but also drinks that were almost undrinkable. If this was in any other town it would be the standard, but in Seattle it is just another “pretty good” place. I would recommend it to sit and work, have a meeting, escape noise, but there are way to many amazing shops that will blow your mind. Quality? Yes! Amazing? No!
