I had been to Grand Forks a few times and was excited to find this place. Located right across the street from campus and naturally flooded with students, this place is pretty cool. Big space, with lot’s of seating, fireplace and lot’s of light. Archive sports a gold Astoria Machine and is part of a campaign called “Ground For Change.” They use only organic fair trade coffee and do their best to help sustain a ethical coffee trading business. They laughed when I asked for a 8oz drink, presenting 12oz as their smallest size. After explaining to them that you could fit a 8oz drink in side a 12oz glass, I saw the guy’s mind get blown (PE Major.) The color was decent, and the flavor was the same. Nothing to write home about, but passable for the town you are in. The best part about this place is the space. Great hangout and people watching.

One of the higher rated shops on Yelp, and once again, the popular user generated site is leading people astray. A god awful shop that is stale and full of odd trinkets for sale. The coffee is just as odd. Dumbfounded by my 8 oz drink, the barista definitely asked if “I wanted flavor” and charge extra for a second shot. A La Cimbali machine and a Diedrich roaster on site, the place is a wash. Don’t go here.

I was surprised to really like Grand Forks. A really funky art’s district with this spot right in the heart of it. A cool space, with lot’s of space to spread out and cool art on the walls. Seems like all the cool people in Grand Forks make this their oasis. Located close to the college also, you will find a lot of students burying their faces in books and laptops. The only problem is that the coffee is not that great. They support a very inferior machine and I did not feel the barista really knew what she was doing. Although it is a great place to hang, the coffee is a letdown. I would get some drip and kick it and not waste your money on any espresso.
